Mexican Federal Government Suspends Activities in Wake of COVID-19

March 27, 2020

Read below

Mexican Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell announced on March 25 that Mexico's federal government would suspend all nonessential activities beginning on March 26. The government has also asked the private sector to allow employees to work from home to slow the spread rate of COVID-19.

However, the government has indicated that the following activities will continue to be provided to the public and private sector:

  • Healthcare services
  • Energy supply
  • Gasoline supply
  • Cleaning services
  • Public safety services

Furthermore, as part of the Mexican government’s efforts to manage the current crisis, the Mexican Social Security Institute has begun to issue work disabilities remotely so that employees no longer have to appear at one of its centers to request such disability.
