Sheila Hollis WASHINGTON, D.C., December 8, 2011—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that energy lawyer Sheila Slocum Hollis, chair of the firm's Washington, D.C. office, accepted a Lifetime Achievement in Energy Award as part of the 13th Annual Platts Global Energy Awards at a December 1 ceremony in New York.

The Platts Global Energy Awards recognize outstanding vision and achievement in the global energy industry. A leading provider of energy-market news and information, Platts established the awards in 1999 to highlight the contributions of individuals, community supporters and corporations to the energy world. The lifetime achievement award is presented to individuals whose achievements are "the product of a long and varied career of service, creativity, and insight," and who have gained "widespread recognition and respect on the global stage," according to the Platts website. Hollis was chosen from more than 200 entrants in more than 30 countries by an impartial panel of energy experts, regulators, corporate executives, academics and legislators. She is the first lawyer in private practice to receive the award.

"We are so proud of Sheila, and further gladdened by the news that Platts has recognized what Washington and the energy business world already knew—she is surely among the handful of lawyers considered at the very top of this complex area of the law," said John J. Soroko, Chairman of Duane Morris.

Hollis focuses her practice on domestic and international energy, water and environmental matters, representing governmental bodies as well as the power and natural gas industries. She was the first director of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Office of Enforcement, where she established the agency’s enforcement policies and procedures. She has been a member of the Energy Bar Association (EBA) for more than 35 years, and was the first woman president of the EBA. In late 2010, Hollis received the Paul E. Nordstrom Service Award from the EBA and the Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar Association in recognition of her exemplary long-term service to the organization. She was president of the Women's Council on Energy and Environment and was honored as its Woman of the Year for 2003. In addition, Hollis has served in numerous leadership roles in the American Bar Association, including past chair of its Section of Environment, Energy and Resources; the Standing Committee on Environmental Law; and the Coordinating Group on Energy Law. She is also treasurer and a board member of the United States Energy Association and chairs its nominating committee.

Hollis served as a professorial lecturer in energy law at George Washington University Law School for 20 years and is the co-author of energy law and policy texts and hundreds of scholarly articles. She has spoken throughout the world on energy and environmental law and policy topics. In 2009, she delivered the "Dean of the Oil and Gas Bar" lecture at a meeting of the Center for American and International Law in Houston.

At Duane Morris, Hollis also serves on the firm's Executive Committee and Partners Board. She earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and graduated, cum laude, in general studies and with honors in journalism from the University of Colorado.
